Designing an inclusive and impactful onboarding experience.

Project Summary
Hotel expense submissions can be complex, requiring multiple steps and often leading to errors.
I first joined the team as a mobile consultant, mentoring web designers on best practices.
As the project evolved, I was tasked with leading efforts to streamline and improve completion times by leveraging machine learning (ML) integration.
Impact

Project kickoff began with PM collaboration to define success metrics and understand core objectives and use cases.
I then launched into a comprehensive discovery phase, connecting with our dedicated researcher and Designers who worked on onboarding and related features in the past, and reading the PRD.
Drawing on insights from previous research case studies, Figma files, and knowledge transfers, I synthesized all the information and identified several opportunities for us to deliver a more impactful release.
I then presented my findings to the PM, which he loved, and we expanded the roadmap using a phased delivery approach.
Building Trust and Success.
Our initial use cases focused on:
Resolving the shift from device language (e.g., Spanish) during onboarding to English on the home page.
Providing clear guidance for first-time users.
After my discovery phase, we expanded the roadmap to include:
Setting push notifications to help users manage alerts.
Selecting Security and Data Privacy settings to address tracking concerns.
Enabling profile editing for personalization enhances a sense of belonging and provides managers with a more comprehensive view.
By integrating these features into the onboarding process, we empower our company partners to deliver an excellent onboarding experience.
Handing off to spike possibilities.
A key challenge we faced was designing within a legacy tech stack.
The goal was to determine which designs could be visually updated and whether a device's language could be used consistently throughout the experience, eliminating the potential need for an extra step to set a language preference after onboarding is completed.
We set the dates to spike technical possibilities, and I delivered the ideal experience in mid-fidelity because that's what we wanted the experience to be.
Unforeseen shift.
Unfortunately, due to a company reorganization, I was unable to see the project through testing and delivery.
However, my design established and defined an onboarding flow that addresses community concerns and supports Worker success.
